No More Blue Bags! Go Blue Cart Instead.

1/26/2018

We recently announced that effective immediately, we will no longer be collecting recyclable materials in blue or any other-colored plastic bags.

"Why can't I use bags for recyclables anymore?"

For many years, your collected recyclables were hand-sorted at TC Recycling, our sister company. We would rip open each bag before hand-sorting the materials by type. This method was neither quick nor efficient, and we had a hard time processing as much material as we received.

In July 2017, Vogel Holding Inc. (our shared parent company)  invested several million dollars into upgrading the equipment at TC Recycling. With our new state-of-the-art sorting system, we can process 600 tons of recyclable materials per week. By processing more materials with greater accuracy, we help ensure that plastics, metals, paper and other recyclable materials are able to be reused instead of wasted. This saves space in the landfill as well as conserving natural resources used to make consumer goods.

The increased efficiency also means two things:

  • Opening every bag by-hand is no longer possible.
  • Bags that get into our system gum up the equipment and can cause dangers or shutdowns.

"What should I do instead?"

Place all recyclables LOOSE in a recycling cart or recycling bin.

With our available 95 gallon wheeled blue recycling carts, you'll never run out of room! The attached lid keeps your recyclables contained - clean and easy. Please call us today to request a cart: (724) 625-1511.

Reminder: Keep hoses, ropes, extension cords, chains, and propane tans out of your recycling. Plastic bags cannot be recycled, so take grocery bags and shopping bags to Giant Eagle, Walmart, or other places with bag recycling programs.

We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our operations safe and efficient!
