PA Gov. Wolf Announces $8.5M in Grants to Reduce Transportation Pollution

On August 1, 2019, Governor Tom Wolf announced that 34 projects across PA would receive a total of $8.5 million in grants and rebates as part of Driving PA Forward. The funds come from PA's share of Volkswagen Group of America's settlement for cheating on U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) emissions tests.

The funds will be used by different initiatives focused on reducing transportation pollution and increasing clean energy usage. The goal is to reduce emissions which contribute to climate change, smog, and human health issues like asthma and COPD.

Several Vogel companies will receive funds for clean transportation initiatives:

• Seneca Landfill, Inc.: A $694,283 grant to replace two older diesel trash compactor vehicles and one older diesel bulldozer with two new diesel trash compactor vehicles and a new diesel bulldozer at its facility in Evans City.
• Tri-County Industries, Inc.: A $213,582 grant to replace six older diesel trash trucks with six new CNG trash trucks at its facility in Grove City.
• Valley Waste Service, Inc.: A $217,340 grant to replace four older diesel trash trucks with four new CNG trash trucks at its facility in Beaver Falls.
• Vogel Disposal Service: A $217,340 grant to replace four older diesel trash trucks with four new CNG trash trucks at its facility in Mars.
